Vanessa Climbing Verdue Coastal Collage Vase

380.00

This one of a kind creamy white coastal inspired vase is both decorative and functional. It is inspired by the various patterns textures and movement discovered along the shore during Tavill's seaside travels. Its coral-like texture is handmade through a series of creative processes in the artist's ceramic studio. The imagery hints to plant life while abstracting it from memories. The artist throws sandy  stoneware clay on the pottery wheel, alters the form and later carves and designs the pattern. Porcelain slip is added to create a white skin and then she hand textures the surface with various tools. Her signature "JT" stamp is impressed into the recessed foot upon completion during the  greenware stage. The piece is substantial in weight due to the necessity for thickness to achieve such texture. The first firing secures the carving and texture and then Tavill coats the interior with clear glaze and delicately applles it to portions of the exterior texture, creating a glisten in many parts upon observation. The final firing takes the kiln to over 2185 degrees as the clay is fully vitrified (no longer porous).

This piece is wonderful in a coastal, transitional or modern home. It is great as a gift or simply as an addition to an eclectic collection.

This piece is 10 1/4" tall x 5 1/8" wide.
